Rooster‘s Fun and Heartfelt Journey

Steve Carell is making a triumphant return to television with the much-anticipated series Rooster, produced by the talented team behind Ted Lasso and Shrinking. After his recent role in Netflix’s The Four Seasons, Carell is set to grace screens once again with this compelling ten-part comedy. Here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming delight that will surely capture the hearts of audiences everywhere.

Catch Rooster on JioHotstar Starting March 9

Created by renowned writers Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, Rooster is finally ready to announce its premiere date. Viewers can tune in on JioHotstar starting March 9, 2026. This series, which is set on a vibrant college campus, stars Carell as the titular character, Greg Russo, an author navigating the complexities of his strained relationship with his daughter, played by Charly Clive. The cast also features notable talents such as Phil Dunster, Danielle Deadwyler, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai, enriching the series with their compelling performances.

A Complicated Father-Daughter Dynamic

In Rooster, Carell portrays Greg Russo, an author whose life is turned upside down as he endeavors to reconnect with Katie, his daughter, who is a professor at Ludlow College. The series dives into their intricate bond, particularly after Katie faces personal turmoil when her husband (played by Dunster) leaves her for a graduate student. Greg, affectionately nicknamed Rooster after a character from his popular novels, strives to demonstrate his support for her during this challenging time.

Additionally, the series portrays the head of Ludlow College, Dean (John C. McGinley), who delivers shocking news to Greg about his daughter’s recent missteps, including burning down the faculty house and engaging in a scuffle with her husband. In a bid to help mend Katie’s reputation, Dean proposes a series of discussions aimed at restoring the college’s image.

International Debut and Streaming Schedule

Rooster will also be available for international audiences on HBO and HBO Max, premiering one day earlier on March 8. New episodes will air weekly each Sunday at 10 PM EST. In India, fans can look forward to watching the series starting March 9, with fresh episodes released every Monday until May 11, 2026.

Notable Cast and Creative Team

In addition to Steve Carell, who also serves as an executive producer on Rooster, the series boasts a talented ensemble cast. Recurring roles feature Annie Mumolo, Alan Ruck, Connie Britton, Robby Hoffman, and Scott MacArthur. Showrunner Bill Lawrence, known for his acclaimed work on Scrubs, Ted Lasso, and Shrinking, brings his signature storytelling style to this new project.

Both Dunster and McGinley have previously worked with Lawrence, with Dunster being known for his role as Jamie Tartt in Ted Lasso and McGinley as Perry Cox in Scrubs. The interconnected world of Lawrence’s creations continues to captivate viewers, with Rooster poised to add to this legacy.

An Anticipated Addition to Comedy

As anticipation builds for Rooster, fans of Carell and the producers of Ted Lasso and Shrinking can look forward to a delightful mix of heartwarming humor and relatable family dynamics. The show promises to deliver laughter while exploring profound themes of connection and redemption.
