If reviews are a reliable gauge of viewership, it appears that Prime Video may have yet another successful show on its hands. After the premiere of We Were Liars on June 18, the Rotten Tomatoes score for this psychological thriller series has been released.

As of this writing, the show has gathered 16 reviews and holds a “fresh” score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, the review aggregator indicates a 76% approval rating from audiences. It is rare for critics and viewers to have a consensus on a show or film, making this a positive indication that We Were Liars, derived from E. Lockhart’s best-selling novel of the same name, is definitely worth watching. The series centers on “Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her close-knit group known as ‘the Liars’ during their summertime adventures on their grandfather’s private island in New England. Although the Sinclair family is celebrated for their beauty, inherited wealth, and strong familial ties, a life-changing incident reveals that everyone, including the Liars, has secrets,” according to the official synopsis.

Leading the series is Emily Alyn Lind, known for her performances in Netflix’s The Babysitter duology and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. She plays Cadence Sinclair Eastman, with the rest of the Liars represented by Shubham Maheshwari (Gat Patil), Esther McGregor (Mirren Sinclair Sheffield), and Joseph Zada (Johnny Sinclair Dennis), who will also star in the upcoming Hunger Games film. The supporting cast features Caitlin FitzGerald as Penny Sinclair, Mamie Gummer as Carrie Sinclair, Candice King as Bess Sinclair, Rahul Kohli as Ed Patil, and David Morse as Harris Sinclair.

Prime Video has established itself as a leading platform for successful adaptations of popular book series, especially in the crime genre, with notable successes such as Bosch, Cross, and Reacher, featuring actors like Titus Welliver, Aldis Hodge, and Alan Ritchson. Reacher has particularly excelled, with its latest season achieving the record for the largest audience for a returning series on the platform, drawing in 54.6 million viewers globally for the Season 3 premiere within the first 19 days.

Yet, We Were Liars demonstrates that Prime Video also ventures beyond crime thrillers. The platform is currently working on a series adaptation of Stephen King’s first novel, Carrie, with Summer Howell cast in the lead role. Veteran filmmaker Mike Flanagan, known for acclaimed King adaptations such as Gerald’s Game and The Life of Chuck, is helming the new Carrie project.

Moreover, Prime Video has taken over an animated adaptation of the children’s fantasy series Wings of Fire, which had stalled in development at Netflix. Recently, it was announced that Aaron Waltke will serve as the showrunner, co-writer, and executive producer for Wings of Fire, promising exciting prospects for fans who have been anticipating the adaptation since 2020.

All eight episodes of We Were Liars are now available to stream on Prime Video.
