From Obscurity to Stardom: A Documentary Journey
The remarkable rise of singer-songwriter Noah Kahan, who transformed from a Vermont-based artist into a global music phenomenon, is the subject of an upcoming Netflix documentary. Titled Out of Body, the film is scheduled to premiere on the streaming platform on April 13. The feature-length project promises an intimate look at Kahan’s rapid ascent and the personal experiences that shaped his music.
An Intimate and Vulnerable Portrait
For a year and a half, cameras followed Kahan, capturing the raw and real moments behind his skyrocketing career. The artist himself described the experience on social media as “weird, difficult and genuinely beautiful.” He expressed both excitement and nervousness about sharing such a personal project with the world, noting that the documentary delves into his creative process, family dynamics, and painful past experiences. Kahan hopes that his vulnerability will resonate deeply with viewers, perhaps even providing solace or a sense of shared understanding during difficult times.
The Creative Team Behind the Film
Out of Body is a collaborative production from several major studios, including RadicalMedia, Live Nation Studios, Polygram Entertainment, and Federal Films. The documentary is directed by filmmaker Nick Sweeney, who helmed the project to chronicle this pivotal chapter in Kahan’s life and career.
New Music and Monumental Tour Plans
The documentary’s release strategically precedes the arrival of Kahan’s highly anticipated new album, “The Great Divide,” which is set for release on April 24 via Mercury Records. Kahan began work on the album immediately after filming concluded, collaborating once again with Gabe Simon and Aaron Dessner of The National.
The album’s title track, “The Great Divide,” immediately topped international streaming charts upon its release. Its impact was amplified by a high-profile music video premiere during the Super Bowl, featured in a commercial for Mastercard. This partnership extends to Kahan’s upcoming massive tour, offering exclusive VIP experiences and ticket packages.
Kahan’s tour kicks off on June 11 in Orlando, Florida, with supporting act Gigi Perez. The extensive stadium run includes a monumental four-night stand at Boston’s historic Fenway Park. The momentum continues with his latest single, “Porch Light,” which has already cracked the Top 10 on Spotify’s Daily U.S. Top Songs chart. In a testament to his enduring appeal, the breakout hit “Stick Season” also recently surged 72 spots on the same chart.
