Prime Video has officially confirmed the release date for its highly anticipated crime drama Scarpetta, inspired by Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling novels. Fans can mark their calendars for March 11, 2026, when the series will premiere in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Alongside the announcement, the streaming giant has unveiled striking first-look images that give audiences an early glimpse into the moody, compelling world of forensic examination and complex psychological intrigue.
The series, helmed by Emmy-nominated showrunner Liz Sarnoff (Barry, Lost), introduces viewers to Cornwell’s celebrated character Dr. Kay Scarpetta, portrayed by Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman. Scarpetta is a brilliant but relentless medical examiner dedicated to speaking for victims, unmasking a cunning serial killer, and revisiting a career-defining case from 28 years ago — a case that could threaten her legacy.
Scarpetta adopts a dual timeline format, weaving together Scarpetta’s beginnings in the late 1990s as Chief Medical Examiner with her present-day return to her hometown. There, she resumes her old post while investigating a brutal new homicide. As the investigation deepens, she must confront tangled family ties, particularly with her sister Dorothy Farinelli — played by fellow Academy Award winner Jamie Lee Curtis — and face unresolved personal and professional rivalries.
The cast features an impressive lineup: Bobby Cannavale (The Watcher) as Detective Pete Marino, Simon Baker (The Mentalist) as FBI profiler Benton Wesley, and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) as Scarpetta’s tech-savvy niece Lucy Watson. Adding to the intrigue, past versions of these characters are portrayed by Rosy McEwen, Amanda Righetti, Jake Cannavale, and Hunter Parrish, enriching the show’s multi-layered narrative.
Behind the scenes, Scarpetta benefits from powerhouse production partnerships. Kidman executive produces through Blossom Films, Curtis through Comet Pictures, Sarnoff through Sarnoff TV, and Cornwell herself through P&S Projects. Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie, and Chris McCumber bring their expertise via Blumhouse Television. Director David Gordon Green, who helms five episodes, also serves as executive producer alongside Amy Sayres. The series comes from Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Television, produced in collaboration with Blossom Films, Comet Pictures, and P&S Projects.
With its blend of forensic science, personal drama, and psychological suspense, Scarpetta promises to be one of 2026’s must-watch streaming events. And with Kidman and Curtis front and center, audiences can expect powerhouse performances in a taut, atmospheric crime thriller that digs deep into the human cost of justice.
