Mark your calendars! On May 9, 2025, Netflix unveils its latest original series, The Royals, a vibrant and engaging royal romantic comedy. From the creative minds of Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy, and brought to life by Pritish Nandy Communications, the show promises to be a delightful collision of Indian royalty and contemporary aspirations.
Set against the backdrop of Morpur, a city steeped in regal history but showing its age, the narrative centers on an unlikely alliance. Ishaan Khatter embodies Aviraaj Singh, a polo-playing prince seeking purpose in life. He’s juxtaposed with Bhumi Pednekar’s Sophia Kanmani Shekhar, a fiercely independent CEO driven to transform Morpur’s ancestral haveli into a luxurious bed and breakfast. Initially a calculated business arrangement, their partnership quickly spirals into a comedic dance of romance, chaos, and self-discovery. As sparks ignite and egos collide, long-held secrets begin to surface.
Khatter himself describes his character: “Maharaja Aviraaj is the most frustratingly charming character I’ve played, and I hope viewers enjoy him as much as I did.” He hints at the layered personality and inherent appeal of the prince.
Adding to the excitement, veteran actress Zeenat Aman expressed her enthusiasm: “The Royals has been both refreshing and creatively fulfilling. Working with vibrant young talents made every moment on set lively and engaging. I’m grateful to Pritish Nandy Communications and Netflix for including me in this extraordinary tale of romance.”
Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, and scripted by Neha Veena Sharma,The Royals boasts a stellar ensemble cast. Alongside Khatter, Pednekar, and Aman, the series features Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh, Udit Arora, Lisa Mishra, and Luke Kenny.
The Royals promises a captivating narrative tapestry woven with glamour, humor, and genuine emotion. It explores the fascinating intersection of time-honored royal traditions and the ambition of the modern world – and the potential for love to bloom in the most unexpected of circumstances.
