Just in time for an exhilarating mid-summer experience, Netflix has released the first images and a teaser for its upcoming Korean action-thriller series Trigger, which is set to debut on July 25, 2025.

The teaser paints a picture of a world awash with illegal firearms in gun-restricted South Korea, disrupting the peace as two men find themselves immersed in the chaos. All the lovers of intense, realism-based narratives can add Trigger to their must-watch list for the summer.

At the forefront is veteran actor Kim Nam-gil, portraying Lee Do, a man compelled to navigate a relentless underworld. He is joined by Kim Young-kwang as Moon Baek, whose shifting loyalties and aspirations may tip the balance.

The teaser alone showcases scenes of roaring gunfire, tense standoffs in dark alleys, and the fierce determination on Kim’s face as he navigates through swirling smoke. It’s evident that Netflix is fully committed to delivering a high-octane experience with Trigger.

While we await a full trailer, the premise and early visuals suggest a gritty, fast-paced thriller with significant global appeal. If you’re someone who enjoys explosive confrontations and characters living on the edge, Trigger is already gearing up to be a must-see this July.

Here’s a comprehensive look at what we know about Trigger ahead of its Netflix release next month.

Netflix has also shared a brief logline for the series: “Illegal firearms emerge, and shooting incidents arise in a country once devoid of guns, prompting two men to take up arms for their distinct reasons.”

Lee Do (played by Kim Nam-gil) is a former sniper turned relentless detective, determined to uncover the roots of a dangerous surge in illegal firearms. Opposite him is Moon Baek (portrayed by Kim Young-kwang), an elusive and unpredictable figure who conceals his true motives behind a carefree façade.

With two experienced stars of the action-thriller genre leading the cast, it’s no surprise that excitement for Trigger is rapidly intensifying.

Additionally, as a limited series, it offers the perfect opportunity for a quick and fulfilling binge-watch. Viewers can dive into the entire thriller without extended waits, and Netflix fans will appreciate having the adrenaline rush all at once.

Adding to the anticipation is writer-director Kwon Oh-seung, known for his acclaimed work on the thriller Midnight, which was a standout at the Fantasia International Film Festival.

Discussing the series with Netflix, Oh-seung remarked: “It’s a story that reflects a situation we’ve all envisioned at some point. This series examines guns from a unique perspective, positioning them at the narrative’s core.”

The teaser trailer introduces a tense landscape where enigmatic firearms begin appearing throughout the nation, igniting widespread chaos. Entangled in this unrest, Lee Do delves into the underlying truths, as the sudden influx of weapons turns South Korean society upside down.

A thriller should always quicken your pulse; if it fails to do so, it’s missing the mark. That’s precisely why Midnight was admired so much by the public, as it consistently keeps one on edge with every viewing.

This is why everyone is particularly eager to see Trigger. If it manages to capture even a fraction of that same electrifying energy and striking visuals, it promises to be an unmissable explosive thriller for action enthusiasts.

You can stream Trigger on Netflix starting July 25.
