The rapid advances in digital technology have made lives simpler. On the flip side, it has equal disadvantages when this technology is misused. Adding to this, the voyeuristic tendencies of the people who are more interested in snooping into the lives of others have become money spinners for the television shows like Bigg Boss or its predecessor Big Brother.
NET, streaming now on famous digital platform Zee5 takes a potshot at the ill effects of voyeurism and how it can go to an extent of ruining relationships.
Lakshman (Rahul Ramakrishna) runs a mobile shop in Nalgonda town which is 100 Km away from Hyderabad. He develops hatred towards his wife Suchitra (Praneeta Patnaik) as she comes from a village background.
Out of this hatred towards his wife, Lakshman tends to seek solace by watching porn and chanced upon a live feed showing the interiors of an apartment complex involving the intimate moments between young couple Priya (Avika Gor) and Ranjith (Vishwadev Rachakonda).
Subsequently, Lakshman slips into the world of voyeurism putting at stake his marital life and business. It becomes an obsession for him that finally leads him to Priya who is on the verge of ending her life after knowing the bitter truth about the breach of her private life.
The answer to the question, Can Lakshman prevent Priya from taking the drastic step? will be known only after watching the whole film.
Rahul Ramakrishna sparkles in a different role displaying his acting prowess and unleashing the emotions he is capable of expressing with ease and proved that he can do intense characters as well with perfection apart from doing comedy and cameos.
Praneeta made a great contribution by giving out a splendid performance that was in tandem with that of Ramakrishna’s and she was a delight to watch.
Avika Gor has nothing much to do except in the climax scenes where she exhibits her brilliance through various emotions.
Other actors, Vishnu Oi as the brother of Suchitra and Vishwadev have done well in their parts although they have lesser screen time.
Behind the scenes
The director, Bhargav Macherla’s deft handling of the narrative was evident all through this 90-minute film. The only glitch was that it was made rather as a family drama instead of a taut thriller. The quarrels between the couple and other irrelevant aspects took the front seat thus robbing NET of its intriguing moments.
Naresh Kumaran’s background score was top-notch so was the camera work of Abhiraj Nair who have infused life into the narrative.
A different storyline that was quite contemporary was the foremost positive aspect of NET. Overall, it’s a striking revelation about the evils of voyeurism and breach of privacy which was presented in an absorbing manner.
Watch it for the novel storyline and interesting plot with Rahul Ramakrishna being the main attraction who lead the whole show with a well-refined performance.
