Netflix is kicking off the new year with a fresh romantic experiment that blends reality TV and documentary filmmaking. The streaming giant has just released the official trailer and premiere schedule for My Korean Boyfriend, a Brazilian docu-reality series shot entirely in Seoul, South Korea. The first part debuts on January 1, followed by the second installment on January 8.

Inspired by the dreamy aesthetics of beloved K-dramas, the show examines whether real-life relationships can live up to the scripted magic fans adore — think picturesque cityscapes, heartfelt conversations, and cultural quirks. In this unique format, five Brazilian women at different stages of romance with Korean partners travel to South Korea’s bustling capital to navigate love, cultural differences, and everyday challenges without the confines of a typical reality show set.

Over the course of 22 days, the production team — more than 100 professionals from both Brazil and South Korea — captured candid moments and heartfelt exchanges against the vibrant backdrop of Seoul. The series benefited from early-stage cultural consultancy, along with support from the Consulate General of South Korea in São Paulo and the Seoul Film Commission.

Produced by Floresta, Sony Pictures Television’s Brazilian arm, My Korean Boyfriend follows in the footsteps of the company’s other Netflix hit Ilhados com a Sogra. Floresta’s Vice President and General Director, Adriana “Dida” Silva, describes the project as “an authentic meeting of two cultures,” combining the emotional warmth of K-drama storytelling with unscripted reality.

Elisa Chalfon, Netflix Brazil’s Director of Unscripted Content, highlights the show’s significance: “Brazilian reality TV is evolving beyond adaptations of foreign formats. My Korean Boyfriend is a homegrown concept that reflects our audience’s growing appetite for cultural diversity in entertainment.”

Meet the Cast

  • Camila Kim, 31, São Paulo – Born in Seoul but raised in Brazil, Camila returns to her birthplace for the first time, hoping to rediscover her heritage — and perhaps romance.
  • Katy Dias, 33, São Paulo – After a chance train encounter in Busan with Jack, Katy maintained a long-distance connection. Now, she’s back in Korea to define their relationship.
  • Luanny Vital, 26, Recife – A single mother navigating a complex romance with Si Won, whom she met via a dating app. She’s in Seoul to address unresolved issues.
  • Mariana Tollendal, 28, Brasília – Mariana’s bond with Danny has grown entirely online. Her trip marks their first in-person meeting to see if virtual chemistry holds up in real life.
  • Morena Monaco, 31, Belo Horizonte – In a relationship with Suwoong for under a year, Morena is ready to discuss future plans, including family, during her stay in Seoul.

With its blend of romance, drama, and cultural discovery, My Korean Boyfriend promises to be one of Netflix Brazil’s most talked-about releases in early 2025. Viewers can expect heartfelt journeys, scenic Seoul moments, and the real-life test of whether love can bridge continents.
