Lady Gaga is serving up a festive surprise for her fans this holiday season. The pop icon has announced that her long-rumored concert film, Harlequin Live — One Night Only, will finally make its public debut on YouTube at 4 p.m. PT on Christmas Eve. (5.30 PM IST)
The news comes just days after an exclusive screening at the Grammy Museum, where Gaga joined Variety’s Chris Willman for an in-depth conversation about the project and its origins. The film is a companion to her Harlequin album, released in late 2024, which is currently nominated for Best Traditional Pop Album at the upcoming Grammy Awards. This nomination adds to the seven nods she earned for her other recent release, Mayhem.
Shot at Los Angeles’ historic Belasco Theatre on September 30, 2024, the performance was an intimate, post-midnight affair attended by around 1,000 lucky fans. Phones and smartwatches were locked away to preserve the atmosphere, making the night almost mythical in the Gaga fandom. Until now, only Variety’s glowing review served as evidence the event even happened.
Speaking at the Grammy Museum, Gaga explained the timing of the release. “We knew this project was special, but we wanted to wait until the timing felt right,” she said. “It’s a rebellious piece, and by Harlequin standards, Christmas is the perfect moment to share something bold.”
The Belasco show saw Gaga and her six-piece band perform the Harlequin album in full, delivering raw, stripped-back renditions of classics like “That’s Entertainment,” “That’s Life,” and “When the Saints Go Marching In,” alongside two original tracks from the album. The set design was striking — a deliberately disheveled apartment scene complete with crooked blinds and an unmade bed — a stark departure from the elegance of her jazz collaborations with the late Tony Bennett or her Las Vegas Jazz & Piano residency.
The visual concept stemmed from the Harlequin album photoshoot and harkened back to Gaga’s early days, when her career was built on aspiration and grit. The decision to film the album live was made with spontaneity, resulting in a raw, high-energy spectacle.
Now, after more than a year of secrecy, fans worldwide can experience the magic. Gaga herself watched part of the film with the Grammy Museum audience before expressing her own excitement: “It feels like a Christmas gift. I can’t believe it’s finally going out into the world.”
For Little Monsters everywhere, Harlequin Live promises to be more than just a concert film — it’s a time capsule of one of Gaga’s most daring and passionate performances.
