"Hunter" S2 Review: The old warhorses at their best in this engaging showdown

Hunter Season 2 – Tootega Nahi, Todega debuted on Amazon MX Player on Thursday July 24, 2025. This gripping web series, helmed by directors Prince Dhiman and Alok Batra, stars Bollywood legends Suniel Shetty and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles.

Story

The narrative picks up right where the first season concluded, weaving together an enthralling tale filled with emotions and drama. ACP Vikram Sinha (portrayed by Suniel Shetty) embarks on another perilous mission, where Pooja’s life hangs in the balance. Along this treacherous path, old wounds, adversaries, and past relationships resurface. The return of characters like Jackie Shroff, who appears as a ‘salesman’, adds a chilling element to every scene.

Performances

At 63, Suniel Shetty continues to mature like fine action wine. His depiction of ACP Vikram transcends mere physical confrontations; it delves into sorrow, regret, and righteous fury. Whether he’s battling criminals or melancholically gazing at a picture of his missing daughter, his portrayal resonates on a deeply personal level.

He’s not depicted as a superhero—rather, he is a weary man burdened with blood-stained hands and heartbreak in his expression. Imagine John Wick infused with Indian sentiments and the responsibilities of fatherhood.

Jackie Shroff, at 68, commands every scene he enters. While his role is somewhat limited, his presence is impactful. He masterfully brings depth to the character of Salesman, delivering sharp dialogues with an undercurrent of menace. Remarkably, he sometimes appears younger than Shetty.

Anusha Dandekar enjoys increased screen time and leaves a positive impression, while Barkha Bisht fulfills her role adequately, despite her character occasionally seeming a bit exaggerated.

Behind the scenes

The cinematography exudes sleekness, the color grading is vibrant, and the overall atmosphere harks back to a high-budget Bollywood film from the 90s—only this time, it’s sharper, more intense, and far more emotionally charged. Directors Prince Dhiman and Alok Batra demonstrate a confident command of their genre.

However, the visual effects don’t consistently match the high bar set by other elements of the show. Additionally, episode 5 tends to drag, but the pacing manages to rebound just in time.

Spanning only six episodes, the series is jam-packed with action, drama, a dose of nostalgia, and even a few bikini shots and strong language that might prompt viewers to double-check their company.

Final Verdict

Hunter Season 2 is akin to a classic vintage bike fueled with new nitrous—familiar and comforting while also incorporating enough contemporary flair to keep things exciting. It may not break new cinematic ground, but it doesn’t need to. It’s a solid, traditional entertainer designed for fans who enjoy a blend of retro vibes, high-stakes action, and Bollywood-style emotional climaxes.

Tune in for the electrifying showdown between Suniel Shetty and Jackie Shroff, the nostalgic musical interludes, and the sheer thrill of witnessing legends excel in their craft—combining combat, emotion, and captivating performances on screen.
