Marvel’s iconic First Family is back in action with the release of the trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
In this new installment, Pedro Pascal takes on the role of Reed Richards, known as Mr. Fantastic, while Vanessa Kirby portrays Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman. Joseph Quinn joins as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach rounds out the team as Ben Grimm, the Thing. The cast also features Ralph Ineson as the formidable villain Galactus, along with Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, and notable performances from Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps represents the official entry of this superhero team into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, which included the X-Men franchise. Fans shouldn’t anticipate any cameo appearances from other Marvel heroes—unless some multiverse twists occur—since the story unfolds in an alternate, retro-futuristic 1960s Manhattan, where the Fantastic Four appear to be the sole heroes at this time.
This new adaptation follows two previous portrayals of the Fantastic Four by 20th Century Fox before Disney integrated them into the MCU. In the 2000s, Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis featured in two films, which were succeeded by a poorly received reboot in 2015 starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell.
Hints about the Fantastic Four have emerged within the MCU previously. In “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” John Krasinski made a brief appearance as Mister Fantastic—only to meet a violent end. Similarly, Chris Evans, who is now famous as Captain America in the MCU, reprised his role as the Human Torch in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” facing a similar fate.
