From Grammy Gold to Personal Reflection: EJAE Releases Powerful New Solo Anthem ‘Time After Time’
Following a landmark victory on music’s biggest stage, singer-songwriter EJAE is channeling personal heartache into her latest artistic endeavor. The acclaimed artist, renowned for her work on the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, has just unveiled a deeply personal and anthemic new solo single titled “Time After Time.”
The track marks a compelling new chapter for the musician, showcasing her ability to translate raw emotion into a universal pop anthem.
A Song Years in the Making
“Time After Time” presents a more intimate side of EJAE’s artistry. The powerful pop ballad delves into the aftermath of a breakup, capturing the incessant cycle of thoughts and memories that follow a relationship’s end. It’s a poignant reflection on love, loss, and the struggle to move forward.
In a statement about the release, EJAE revealed the song’s long gestation period, drawing a direct parallel to its subject matter. “The melody of ‘Time After Time’ was stuck in my head for years, just like the person I wrote it about,” the singer confessed. This personal connection promises a track filled with genuine emotion and vulnerability.
Riding a Wave of Historic Accolades
The single’s release comes on the heels of EJAE’s monumental success at the 2026 Grammy Awards. There, “Golden”—the breakout hit from Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters, which EJAE co-wrote and performed—scored a historic win for Best Song Written for Visual Media. This victory marked the first time a K-Pop-influenced song has ever received a Grammy.
During her emotional acceptance speech, EJ highlighted the cultural significance of the moment: “This is crazy because this is a historical moment… as a Korean American. It’s a song that also represents Korea.”
“Golden” has been on an award-winning streak, having already secured a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award. The track is currently nominated for Best Original Song at the upcoming Oscars, further cementing its status as a modern classic.
The World of KPop Demon Hunters and HUNTR/X
For the uninitiated, KPop Demon Hunters introduces the world to HUNTR/X, a fictional superstar Korean girl group consisting of members Rumi, Zoey, and Mira. The trio secretly uses their upbeat, powerful music as a weapon to protect humanity from evil demons. The singing voices behind these animated icons are provided by a powerhouse trio of real-life artists: EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami.
EJAE was a central creative force behind the film’s soundtrack, writing and performing multiple songs in addition to the award-winning “Golden.” Her songwriting pedigree is impressive, with credits for some of K-Pop’s biggest names, including aespa, Red Velvet, LE SSERAFIM, TWICE, Taeyeon, NMIXX, and FiftyFifty.
A Live Debut and the Power of “Golden”
The momentum for KPop Demon Hunters continues to build. EJAE, alongside Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, is set to showcase “Golden” live at the BAFTA Film Awards in London on February 22. This performance will mark the first time the hit song is performed live outside of the United States, a highly anticipated event for international fans.
The profound connection EJAE has to “Golden” was previously shared in an interview with Rolling Stone. She revealed the song was born from a place of personal struggle, written alongside co-writer Mark Sonnenblick.
“I don’t know if Mark knows this, but when I wrote ‘Golden,’ I was going through a hard time. I actually cried singing the demo, because it resonated with me so much,” she admitted. She then offered a theory on the song’s massive success: “Maybe that’s why ‘Golden’ is ‘going up up up.’ Because everyone’s going through a hard time. And they want to feel hope.”
With “Time After Time,” EJAE continues this mission of crafting music that resonates deeply, transforming personal catharsis into a source of strength and connection for listeners everywhere.
