The much-awaited cricket biopic Chakda Xpress, inspired by former Indian women’s team captain Jhulan Goswami, remains in limbo despite being completed over two years ago. Headlined by Bollywood star Anushka Sharma, the film was originally planned for a Netflix premiere following its 2022 shoot. However, an official streaming date is yet to be confirmed, leaving fans increasingly restless.
Anushka Sharma, making her big-screen return after the birth of her daughter Vamika, had secured a streaming deal with Netflix for Chakda Xpress in 2022. The project generated high anticipation, not only for marking Anushka’s long-awaited comeback but also for showcasing the inspiring journey of Jhulan Goswami — one of India’s most celebrated fast bowlers.
The recent triumph of the Indian women’s cricket team at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 reignited public enthusiasm for the film. Social media has been abuzz with calls urging Clean Slate Filmz (co-founded by Anushka’s brother Karnesh Sharma) and Netflix to resolve their differences and expedite the release. Reportedly, creative disagreements and a parting of ways between the production house and the streaming giant have stalled multiple projects, including Chakda Xpress.
When approached for comment, Jhulan Goswami admitted she was unaware of any concrete progress, stating to Hindustan Times:
“I am not aware of any such update. Let’s hope for the best.”
Industry insiders suggest that the film’s team has directly appealed to senior executives at Netflix India in hopes of finding a way forward. A source quoted by Mid-Day emphasized the importance of the release:
“We have personally reached out to top executives to see if they can move past the conflict. A biopic on a legend like Jhulan di deserves to reach viewers.”
Another production insider hinted that the renewed talks were prompted by India’s World Cup win:
“The victory has shifted focus back on the biopic. Discussions have resumed, and a final decision may be taken this month after additional work on the film.”
Reportedly, the project overshot its budget, and creative dissatisfaction at the streamer level further complicated matters. Still, sources maintain that Chakda Xpress remains a strong, compelling film worthy of an audience.
Since completing the biopic, Anushka Sharma has not signed any new projects. Her last theatrical release was Zero in 2018, followed by a brief appearance in Qala (2022) on Netflix.
For now, cricket fans and Bollywood enthusiasts alike await clarity on the Chakda Xpress release date — hoping the celebrated story of Jhulan Goswami will finally make it to screens where it belongs.
