The 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards have been unveiled, just days following the Oscars, revealing a host of surprising nominees in crucial categories. Leading the pack are the films One Battle After Another, Sinners, Hamnet, and Marty Supreme, all of which have garnered multiple nominations. However, notable omissions include Wicked: For Good and KPop Demon Hunters, which failed to secure any nods.
On January 27, the nominations were revealed in London by actors David Jonsson and Aimee Lou Wood. The 79th edition of the BAFTA Awards celebrates the finest achievements in both British and international cinema. One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, stands out as the most nominated film, racking up an impressive 14 nominations across various categories. Trailing closely is Sinners from Ryan Coogler with 13 nominations, followed by both Marty Supreme from Josh Safdie and Hamnet by Chloe Zhao, each securing 11 nominations. Additionally, Frankenstein and the British film I Swear also received several nods.
There were also significant surprises within the nominations. Notably, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, stars of Wicked: For Good, were overlooked for acting nominations. Furthermore, KPop Demon Hunters and No Other Choice did not receive any recognition. Among the pleasant surprises, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia managed to capture six nominations, while Emily Watson from Hamnet was recognized for her performance as Best Supporting Actress. The awards ceremony is set to take place on February 22, 2026, at the Royal Festival Hall in London, hosted by Alan Cumming.
