From Page to Screen: How All Her Fault Began

Peacock’s psychological drama All Her Fault has captivated audiences with its tense plot and powerhouse cast. Based on Andrea Mara’s bestselling 2021 novel, the series follows Marissa Irvine — played by Emmy winner Sarah Snook — a mother whose ordinary day takes a nightmarish turn when she arrives to collect her young son from a playdate, only to be met by a stranger who insists they’ve never heard of him.

The ensemble cast includes Dakota Fanning, Jake Lacy, Jay Ellis, Abby Elliott, Sophia Lillis, and Daniel Monks, each adding depth to this web of mystery and betrayal.

Is All Her Fault Based on a True Story?

While the drama’s plot is fictional, its inspiration stems from a nerve-wracking personal incident in Mara’s own life. In April 2015, she went to pick up her daughter from a friend’s home — but discovered the house empty. Within moments, a neighbor explained that the family had moved weeks earlier, and Mara had been relying on outdated contact information.

The real-life event was resolved in minutes, but it planted the seed for Mara’s “what if” storytelling approach: What if the missing child never turned up right away?

Twists, Secrets, and Betrayal

In the series, Marissa and her husband Peter launch a frantic search once their son Milo disappears. As police get involved, suspicion falls on Carrie Finch — Milo’s nanny — whose dark past reveals she lost her newborn at 16 and believes Milo is actually her child.

The story ultimately exposes a devastating car accident years earlier involving Marissa, Peter, and Carrie (then known as Josephine). Viewers learn that Peter secretly swapped babies after the crash, setting off a chain of deception that ends in murder and shocking revelations.

A Story Rooted in Friendship

While the kidnapping plot is fictional, Andrea Mara insists that the show’s portrayal of deep female friendships is authentic. Speaking at the premiere, she shared how her creative inspiration often comes from real moments — even if the outcomes in her novels are far more dramatic.

Where to Watch

All eight episodes of All Her Fault are streaming now on Peacock (JioHotstar in India), making it easy for viewers to binge the high-stakes mystery in one sitting.
