Sci-Fi Fans Rejoice: Stargate SG-1 Streams on Netflix in 2026

Sci-fi television enthusiasts have reason to celebrate—Netflix has officially announced the return of Stargate SG-1 to its streaming lineup on February 15, 2026. The entire run, spanning 10 seasons and a massive 214 episodes, will be accessible in the United States, the United Kingdom, Latin America, and several other selected territories.

This revival comes after a multi-year absence. The series left Netflix in late 2022 following Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, which shifted the Stargate franchise to Prime Video. Now, thanks to a fresh licensing deal, fans will once again be able to binge-watch one of television’s longest-running science fiction shows without interruption.

A Legendary Series Returns

Originally airing between 1997 and 2007, Stargate SG-1 extended the story introduced in the 1994 film Stargate, directed by Roland Emmerich. Developed by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, the series debuted on Showtime before transitioning to Syfy.

The plot follows SG-1, an elite U.S. Air Force team tasked with exploring distant worlds through the Stargate—a mysterious ancient device capable of creating wormholes between planets. The team’s missions blend military strategy with exploration, diplomacy, and elements drawn from Earth’s ancient mythologies.

Epic Storylines and Fan-Favorite Villains

Throughout its run, SG-1 battles a range of formidable enemies. Early seasons focus on the Goa’uld System Lords—ruthless parasitic beings who pose as gods from human history, including Egyptian, Greek, and Norse mythologies. Notable antagonists include Apophis, Ba’al, and the half-ascended Anubis.

Later seasons introduce new threats, such as the Replicators—self-replicating machines that consume entire civilizations—and the Ori, powerful ascended beings who demand worship and send their human followers, the Priors, on religious crusades.

An Ensemble Cast That Defined Sci-Fi TV

Stargate SG-1 owes much of its success to its memorable cast:

  • Richard Dean Anderson as Colonel Jack O’Neill, a witty and seasoned leader.
  • Michael Shanks as Dr. Daniel Jackson, the team’s archaeologist and moral voice.
  • Amanda Tapping as Samantha Carter, a brilliant astrophysicist and engineer.
  • Christopher Judge as Teal’c, a former Jaffa warrior turned ally.
  • Don S. Davis as General George Hammond, SG-1’s steadfast commander.

In later seasons, new faces joined the team, including Ben Browder as Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, Claudia Black as Vala Mal Doran, and Beau Bridges as General Hank Landry.

The Ongoing Legacy

The success of Stargate SG-1 spawned two spin-off series—Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe—which remain available on Prime Video. With Netflix bringing back SG-1, fans old and new can revisit the adventures or experience them for the first time.

February 15, 2026, marks the perfect opportunity to step through the Stargate once again and embark on missions across the galaxy—without leaving your sofa.
