Horror cinema fans have reason to celebrate — the first teaser for Lee Cronin’s upcoming The Mummy has dropped, offering a tantalising glimpse at a bold and unsettling reimagining of one of the genre’s most enduring legends.

Unveiled on Monday, the teaser presents a fresh yet haunting take on the age-old mummy mythos, described by the filmmakers as “audacious” and “twisted.” The short preview opens with eerie imagery: the discovery of a fully shrouded body in an undisclosed desert location, surrounded by curious onlookers and photographers capturing the moment.

The atmosphere quickly shifts from mystery to menace. Fragmented scenes hint at the awakening of a malevolent power, accompanied by ominous chanting that heightens the sense of dread. In one chilling shot, a mummified corpse appears to stir back to life. The teaser’s unsettling finale arrives as a spider emerges from the corpse — a visual that lingers long after the screen fades to black.

According to the official synopsis, the film’s central plot revolves around the disappearance of a journalist’s young daughter in the desert. Eight years later, she inexplicably returns to her family. What begins as a miraculous reunion soon spirals into a harrowing nightmare, as dark forces connected to her disappearance begin to surface.

Written and directed by Lee Cronin, The Mummy boasts an impressive cast including Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcon. The production brings together horror heavyweights James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville, under the banners of New Line Cinema, Atomic Monster, and Blumhouse Productions.

The film is scheduled for a theatrical and IMAX release in North America on April 17, 2026, with international audiences getting an earlier glimpse on April 15, 2026.

The legacy of The Mummy dates back to the 1932 classic, which told the story of an ancient Egyptian priest resurrected from the dead, unleashing a deadly curse. The tale was successfully revived in 1999 with a blockbuster reboot starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, spawning a beloved franchise.

In an exciting twist for long-time fans, Fraser and Weisz are reportedly set to reunite for a fourth Mummy adventure helmed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, as confirmed by Variety. This development marks a nostalgic return for the iconic duo, bridging generations of Mummy enthusiasts.

With its sinister visuals, compelling mystery, and powerhouse creative team, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is shaping up to be one of 2026’s most anticipated horror releases — promising both a fresh vision and a respectful nod to the franchise’s storied past.
