ZEE5, India’s largest homegrown video streaming platform renowned for its bold, multilingual storytelling, is excited to introduce its latest Telugu original series, Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting. This thrilling supernatural drama takes place against the backdrop of Andhra’s rural setting. With a compelling blend of haunting folklore, hidden village secrets, and a daring investigation, the series promises an intense viewing experience that is definitely binge-worthy, starring Abhignya Vuthaluru and Charan Lakkaraju, and directed by Krishna Poluru.
Set in the 1980s, the remote village of Viraatapalem is engulfed in fear due to a sinister curse that leads to mysterious deaths of brides on their wedding days, halting marriages for over a decade. The village’s population is now comprised only of the very young and the very old. When a fearless police constable (Abhignya Vuthaluru) arrives in the village, she challenges the notion of the curse. Partnering with a reformed convict, she starts to unravel a mystery that the village prefers to keep hidden. One woman, one village, and countless secrets — in Viraatapalem, some of these secrets are desperate to remain concealed.
Anuradha Gudur, ZEE5’s Telugu Business Head, expressed: “At ZEE5, we strive to present stories that resonate with the realities, fears, and resilience of everyday life. ‘Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting’ is a richly atmospheric and emotionally engaging tale that marries suspense with social insights. Through the lens of a secluded village, the series examines how fear can dominate an entire community and how bravery can shatter years of silence.”
Director Krishna Poluru remarked, “I’m excited to partner with ZEE5 again after ‘Recce.’ In ‘Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting,’ we delve into a village plagued by a haunting curse that has halted weddings for over a decade, where every bride mysteriously dies on her wedding day. This fear has led to an overwhelming silence. This series is about breaking that silence. We’ve crafted a world that is both realistic and eerie, where one woman dares to confront the question everyone is terrified to ask.”
Producer Sriram of South Indian Screens stated, “Following the success of ‘Recce,’ it’s a pleasure to collaborate with ZEE5 once more for ‘Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting.’ The story captured my attention from the very start; it is haunting, intricate, and deeply connected to the fears many communities quietly harbor. Having spent years creating television narratives and portraying characters, this project allowed me to explore a more atmospheric and grounded theme. I’m proud of the world we’ve created with this series: mysterious, tense, and emotionally authentic, and I cannot wait for audiences to experience it.”
Abhignya Vuthaluru shared her thoughts, saying, “Being part of this project was both intense and fulfilling. The role required a delicate balance of sensitivity, strength, and vulnerability, particularly in a realm that often prioritizes fear over facts. Filming in the village amidst real locations and actual people lent a raw quality to the experience that I believe audiences will appreciate.”
With elements of superstition, suspense, and a profound message at its heart, Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting transforms into more than just a supernatural thriller; it represents a struggle between fear and truth, unfolding in the most unexpected places.
