2025 Astra Creative Arts Awards — Night of Big Wins for Sinners & Frankenstein

The Hollywood Creative Alliance rolled out the red carpet on Thursday night for this year’s Astra Creative Arts Awards, honoring the unsung heroes — casting directors, cinematographers, costume designers, and other artisans — who shape the year’s most memorable film and television moments.

In a rare twist, the top accolades in the film categories were split between two standout projects: Warner Bros.’ Sinners and Netflix’s reimagining of Frankenstein. Each production walked away with three awards, cementing their status as creative powerhouses for 2025.

On the television side, HBO Max’s The Pitt proved unbeatable, claiming three wins including Best Casting and Best Editing. Netflix favorites Wednesday and Stranger Things also secured multiple victories, maintaining their foothold as pop culture staples.

Highlights from the Film Categories

  • Sinners captured major wins in Best Casting and Best Cinematography, showcasing Francine Maisler’s exceptional casting work and Autumn Durald Arkapaw’s masterful visuals.
  • Frankenstein impressed voters with wins in Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling, as well as Best Production Design, thanks to Tamara Deverell’s visionary sets.
  • One Battle After Another took home Best Film Editing and Best Second Unit Director, cementing Warner Bros.’ strong showing.
  • The night also saw Wicked: For Good claim Best Visual Effects, while Weapons emerged victorious in the Best Marketing Campaign category.

Television Triumphs

  • The Pitt dominated with wins for Best Casting, Best Editing, and Best Production Design.
  • Netflix’s Wednesday claimed accolades for Best Choreography and Best Costume Design, reinforcing its reputation for visual flair.
  • Severance earned Best Cinematography, while the Hulu comedy Chad Powers surprisingly won Best Hairstyling.
  • Peacock’s Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy secured Best Makeup, adding variety to the winners’ circle.
  • Stranger Things (Netflix) emerge as a standout, clinching the honor for Best Score and Best Visual Effects.
  • Alien Earth (FX) triumphed, securing Best Sound for its immersive audio landscapes that captivated audiences.
  • Gen V (Prime Video) claimed Best Stunts with its breathtaking sequences and skillful choreography.

Award Season Impact

With the main Best Song and Best Score categories postponed to the January 9 ceremony, the Creative Arts portion of the Astras serves as a prelude to the bigger industry awards season. These victories position Sinners, Frankenstein, and The Pitt as frontrunners for upcoming honors, fueling anticipation among industry insiders and fans alike.

From blockbuster spectacles to indie darlings and beloved TV series, the 2025 Astra Creative Arts Awards prove once again that cinematic and television magic is as much about behind-the-scenes artistry as it is about on-screen talent.
