K-pop’s rising five-member girl group RESCENE has unveiled their third mini-album, Lip Bomb, continuing the unique fragrance-based concept that has defined their artistry since debut. Released Tuesday, the project infuses their signature aesthetic with a playful berry twist while delivering a fresh blend of softness and impact.
Since their 2024 debut, members Woni, Liv, Minami, May, and Zena have crafted a sonic and visual identity rooted in connecting music with scents. Earlier this year, their February single Glow Up embodied the clean charm of freshly made soap, while July’s Dearest evoked the lush green aroma of summer grass. Now, Lip Bomb channels berry-sweet warmth, fusing it with an energetic pop edge.
The album’s title cleverly combines the gentle feel of lip balm with the explosive imagery of a fragrance “burst,” symbolizing a lasting sweetness they hope will linger with listeners. “Our music is meant to embrace listeners the way berry-scented lip balm would,” leader Woni explained during the group’s media showcase. “We wanted every song to brighten someone’s day instantly.”
Lip Bomb features five tracks, headlined by double title songs “Heart Drop” and “Bloom”, with supporting tracks “Love Echo,” “Hello XO”, and “MVP.” Each track carries its own berry motif — cranberry, blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, and blueberry respectively — creating a sensory thread that ties the album together.
Minami highlighted the emotional connection between scent and sound: “A fragrance can trigger memories in the same way music can. Smelling something familiar can take you back to a time, just as hearing a particular song can evoke the scent from that era. That shared power is magical.”
Among the two lead singles, “Bloom” delivers an uplifting coming‑of‑age narrative about personal growth and embracing long-awaited moments. Its vibrant K-pop beats and soaring chorus are designed to inspire. May described it as “the feeling of life suddenly coming together as you create your own story.” Liv shared that the track fueled their energy during comeback preparations: “We played Bloom constantly while traveling. Reliving the shoot and behind-the-scenes moments gave us strength.”
Meanwhile, the pre-release track “Heart Drop,” revealed on November 6, captures the gradual pull of falling in love, blending dreamy melodies with subtly addictive hooks. “It carries that signature RESCENE sweetness,” Liv said.
The showcase also marked RESCENE’s first major press event since unfounded rumors surfaced in September about alleged mistreatment. The group and their agency, The Muse Entertainment, have firmly denied the claims, with May clarifying their healthy working relationship. “It was something we could just laugh about,” Woni said. “We’re happy. No need to worry.”
With Lip Bomb, RESCENE strengthens their unique connection between scent, mood, and music — a sensory-driven storytelling approach that continues to set them apart in Korea’s competitive pop landscape. “We hope this album becomes part of people’s everyday moments,” Woni said. “If it uplifts someone like it did for us, it’s mission accomplished.”
