Marvel fans can mark their calendars! Wonder Man, the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is gearing up for its global streaming debut on Disney+ on January 27, 2026, followed by JioHotstar in India a day later. Led by Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the show promises a refreshing mix of industry satire and superhero storytelling.

A New Hero Enters the MCU

The series spotlights Simon Williams, a struggling Hollywood actor who gains incredible abilities and transforms into the superhero Wonder Man. Known for his portrayal of the villainous Black Manta in DC’s Aquaman films, Abdul-Mateen ventures into new territory as the MCU’s latest leading man.

Creative Minds Behind the Screen

The project is steered by Destin Daniel Cretton, acclaimed for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Cretton serves as both executive producer and director of select episodes.

Showrunner Andrew Guest oversees the storytelling, ensuring the show stays rooted in Marvel’s signature mix of humor, emotion, and blockbuster scale.

Cretton’s involvement is particularly intriguing, as he’s also tied to Spider-Man: Brand New Day and a future Shang-Chi sequel, hinting at potential connective threads within the MCU’s expanding storylines.

Returning Faces and Hollywood Flair

Veteran actor Ben Kingsley returns as Trevor Slattery, the washed-up actor last seen in Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi. His inclusion fits perfectly with the series’ Hollywood backdrop and comedic tone. The cast also features Ed Harris and Demetrius Grosse, who portrays Simon’s brother Eric Williams. Meanwhile, Arian Moayed reprises his role as Agent P. Cleary from Spider-Man: No Way Home and Ms. Marvel, expanding the web of interlinked Marvel stories.

At New York Comic Con 2025, Abdul-Mateen described playing Simon as a deeply personal experience: the role, he said, explores the ambition, vulnerability, and ego that come with chasing dreams in the entertainment world.

A “Love Letter” to Hollywood

Marvel describes Wonder Man as “a love letter to filmmaking, acting, and Hollywood itself.” The series will chronicle Simon’s struggle to balance fame and heroism, resulting in a heartfelt yet humorous take on the superhero genre.

Created by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Jack Kirby, Wonder Man first appeared in The Avengers #9, initially as a villain before becoming a hero. Now, nearly six decades later, this underappreciated character is ready for his spotlight moment.

With its mix of self-aware humor, heart, and Hollywood glamour, Wonder Man is poised to give fans one of the most unique MCU experiences yet when it lands on streaming in early 2026.
