Game of Thrones fans have reason to celebrate once again! HBO has officially announced the India release date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, its much-awaited prequel set in the same richly layered universe created by George R. R. Martin. The fantasy drama will debut on JioHotstar on January 19, 2026, just one day after its worldwide premiere on HBO Max.

Based on George R. R. Martin’s acclaimed Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, the series will unfold across six episodes, following the adventures of Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his spirited young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Set roughly a century before the events of Game of Thrones, the storyline explores a Westeros still fractured by political tensions and dynastic ambitions — long before the rise of Daenerys Targaryen or the fall of the Iron Throne.

The prequel promises a more intimate narrative tone than its epic predecessor. Instead of vast wars and sprawling conspiracies, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms focuses on individual acts of bravery, loyalty, and friendship. Viewers will accompany Dunk and Egg as they journey across Westeros, taking part in thrilling tournaments, duels, and encounters that lay the groundwork for the early Targaryen legacy.

The recently released teaser trailer offers a glimpse of what’s to come — armored clashes, noble rivalries, and heartfelt companionship reminiscent of classic knightly tales. A standout scene showcases Ser Duncan being mistaken for Baelor Targaryen (portrayed by Bertie Carvel), igniting an event inspired by Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight.

Apart from Claffey and Ansell, the ensemble cast features Finn Bennett, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Ross Anderson, Sam Spruell, Youssef Kerkour, and Steve Wall, among others. The production aims to balance the grandeur of Westeros with a more character-driven story, highlighting the ideals of courage and honor in a volatile realm.

Interestingly, the timeline of this series places it 72 years after House of the Dragon, marking the first time two Game of Thrones prequels will premiere in the same year — with House of the Dragon Season 3 also slated for 2026.

With its blend of rich storytelling, grounded character arcs, and medieval fantasy aesthetics, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is poised to reignite the passion of Game of Thrones enthusiasts and captivate new viewers alike.
