If you caught Netflix’s inaugural season of Building the Band—a groundbreaking music contest that began with 50 hopefuls auditioning blindly and ultimately forged six unseen groups—you’ll recall that the trio 3QUENCY took home the trophy.
Outpacing rivals SZN4, Iconyx (formerly Soulidified), Midnight Til Morning, Sweet Seduction and Siren Society, the lineup of Brianna Mazzola, Wennely Quezada and Nori Royale wowed the panel with stellar vocals and choreography, clinching the cash prize on the finale night.
Flush with a $500,000 windfall, the three‑piece has been relentless—recording, writing, rehearsing, and producing around the clock—as they lay the groundwork for what they hope will be the next breakout girl‑group.
In an exclusive chat with Parade, the members pulled back the curtain on their Building the Band experience and hinted at what’s coming next for 3QUENCY. Keep reading for the full scoop.
“A lot has changed for us over the past year,” Brianna opened, giving us a quick rundown of life since filming wrapped last summer.
“We got home, took a two‑week breather—though we were texting each other nonstop during that time—and then we all asked, ‘When are we heading to L.A.?’ So we all ended up in LA together,” she said, eyes sparkling. “We spent a few weeks there meeting industry folks, attending meetings, and connecting with some amazing people we’re now collaborating with. It’s been incredibly exciting.”
The Philadelphia native added, “Since then we’ve been working closely with our team, hitting the studio, and right now we’re based out of a compound in Orlando. It’s a thrilling environment.”
When asked about the past year, Brianna confirmed that 3QUENCY has definitely been putting it to good use, promising a flood of new material.
“We’ve been shuttling in and out of the studio with some seriously talented producers,” the 24‑year‑old explained. “We dug up a bunch of tracks from our back‑catalog, re‑imagined them, and now we’re ready to roll out the next chapter.”
Nori chimed in, “This is our baby, so we’re taking the time we need. When it’s ready, you’ll be the first to hear it.”
Wennely echoed that sentiment: “It’s coming—just be patient.” She then turned the conversation toward the musical direction they’ve been exploring lately.
Being a Dominican‑born TikTok creator who often posts Spanish‑language covers, Wennely hinted that a Latin flavor might soon weave into 3QUENCY’s sound.
“I’ve always wanted to record a Latin project with the girls, and they’re totally open to it,” she disclosed. “We want to blend Latin, R&B, pop—whatever we can get our hands on. It’s definitely on the table.”
Beyond their vocal abilities, the trio’s dance chops earned them high marks on Building the Band, especially during their finale rendition of “Have Mercy.”
The members confirmed that they’ve been keeping their dance practice alive, with Brianna noting that the Orlando compound provides everything they need—from a fully equipped dance studio to a state‑of‑the‑art recording booth.
While new songs are in the pipeline, 3QUENCY also teased plans to hit the road soon. After hearing that fellow contestant Midnight Til Morning announced its first tour dates, Brianna admitted, “We’re not the only ones itching to get on tour.”
“We have ideas, we have plans, but we can’t share specifics just yet. Things aren’t packaged yet, but they’re definitely being wrapped up,” she said.
Wrapping up the interview, Wennely spoke for the three of them, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support since the show aired.
“We’re incredibly thankful for all the love we’ve received,” she gushed. “The fan comments have been overwhelming, and we just want to say thank you. We’re so grateful for each and every one of you.”
