SonyLIV has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming drama series, 13th: Some Lessons Aren’t Taught in Classrooms, and it already looks like a moving tribute to the power of mentorship. The show, inspired by the real-life journey and teaching legacy of celebrated mathematics educator Mohit Tyagi, goes beyond academic achievements to explore how true guidance can shape lives far outside the classroom.

A Glimpse Into the Story

The trailer introduces viewers to Ritesh, portrayed by Paresh Pahuja, a successful venture capitalist who seems to have it all in the fast-paced corporate world. However, his life takes an emotional turn when he reconnects with his mentor, MT Sir (Gagan Dev Riar). Years earlier, MT Sir’s wisdom and life lessons played a transformative role in Ritesh’s journey. Now, as a gesture of deep respect and gratitude, Ritesh chooses to step away from his thriving career to help his mentor fulfill a long-cherished dream—launching an innovative ed-tech start-up.

This storyline captures the essence of lifelong bonds between teachers and students, showing that some debts of gratitude are repaid not in words but in actions. The narrative is about more than professional success; it’s about honoring the people who ignite ambition and give direction when it’s needed most.

The Creative Team and Cast

13th is produced by About Films and spearheaded by Abhishek Dhandharia as producer and showrunner. The creative vision is carried forward by Sameer Mishra as the series creator and writer, with Nishil Sheth taking the director’s chair.

Adding depth to the story are stellar performances from the supporting cast, which includes Girija Oak Godbole, Pradnya Motghare, Abhishek Ranjan, Keshav Mehta, Jai Kishan, Ashish Raghav, Ajay Chakraborty, and Rajendra Bhatia. Their involvement promises a layered narrative full of emotional resonance.

What the Trailer Promises

Visually, the trailer strikes a balance between warmth and intensity. On one hand, it highlights intimate mentorship moments that emphasize trust, gratitude, and self-discovery. On the other, it showcases the vibrant, competitive environment of start-ups, portraying ambition and innovation in a modern light. This duality makes the show relatable for both young learners and working professionals, blending emotional storytelling with inspiring real-world themes.

Why 13th Stands Out

At its core, 13th is more than a drama—it is a tribute to mentors who leave an enduring impact on their students’ lives. It reflects how meaningful guidance extends beyond textbooks, grades, or exams, shaping character, resilience, and purpose. For anyone who has been influenced by a teacher or guide, this series is set to strike a personal chord.

Release Date and Expectations

The series will be available for streaming exclusively on SonyLIV starting October 1, 2025. With an uplifting storyline, strong performances, and a theme rooted in gratitude and inspiration, 13th has the potential to not only entertain but also encourage viewers to reflect on the mentors who shaped their own journeys.

Final Thoughts

13th: Some Lessons Aren’t Taught in Classrooms is shaping up to be a poignant and motivational watch. By blending the emotional richness of mentorship with the modern energy of entrepreneurial dreams, SonyLIV has curated a show that will resonate with a wide audience. Whether you are a student, a professional, or someone reflecting on the people who influenced your path, this series promises to remind us all of the timeless value of mentorship.
