Visual bonanza with a thrilling touch

The movie begins with Bhargav Bhakshi (Sudeep), a top cop, conducting a rowdy parade in Bengaluru. While issuing a stern warning to the goons, Bhakshi narrates the story of Arakeshwara (Upendra). He explains to the rowdy-sheeters how Arakeshwara, the son of a freedom fighter wanted to become an Indian Air Force pilot and how he fell in love with Madhumathi (Shriya Saran), the daughter of Bhoopathy (Murali Sharma). He also narrates how Arakeshwara’s brother Sankeshwara (Sunil Puranik) was killed by mafia leaders and under what circumstances Arakeshwara becomes a rowdy and later graduates as a don. What happens to Arakeshwara is what Kabzaa is all about.

Director R Chandru deserves appreciation for handling the megaphone for this movie which deserves to be classified as a technically brilliant movie. The director’s hard work is evident in each and every frame of the movie. Had the director focused on the screenplay, especially in the post-intermission session, Kabzaa would have been the best entertainer. However, the climax is super. It indicates a sequel of this movie in the offing.

Upendra, as an obedient son, ambitious student, affectionate lover and a don, has acted well. His dialogue delivery and body language are good. Sudeep makes, in the beginning and in the climax, a brief appearance but it creates an impact. Dr Shivarajkumar’s appearance, in the climax, is also brief. He may have a larger role in the sequel of Kabzaa.

Shriya Saran looks beautiful. Her dancing skills in the song – Namaami – deserve appreciation. Upendra and Tanya Hope vie with each other in an item song – Chum Chum Chali Chali. Among the actors, Murali Sharma, Anoop Revanna, and Sunil Puranik, have acted well.

Music director Ravi Basrur has once again proved his mettle in ensuring melodious music. Cinematographer AJ Shetty has done a good job behind the camera.

All in all, Kabzaa is worth a watch for those who get an adrenaline rush through action-oriented moviesw.
