Todd and Julie Chrisley aren’t going down without a fight.
Earlier this week, Todd and Julie were sentenced to 12 and 7 years in prison, respectively. But the couple is reportedly “optimistic” about their appeals.
“Yesterday was a difficult day for the Chrisley family. But Todd and Julie are people of faith, and that faith gives them strength as they appeal their convictions,” the Chrisley’s lawyer, Alex Little, told People Magazine.
“Their trial was marred by serious and repeated errors, including the government lying to jurors about what taxes the couple paid,” Little said.
“Based on these issues, we are optimistic about the road ahead,” Little added.
As Celebuzz previously reported, prosecutors asked for Todd to receive more than 22 years and Julie to serve approximately 13 during the trial. The couple’s attorney asked for a lighter sentence, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
“We are fortunate [to] have the counsel that we have, and our family will stick together and walk this road because we know the good Lord will hold our hand and get us through,” Todd said during the trial.
The sentence was made official in the US District Court of Georgia this afternoon. Todd has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Julie is sentenced to 7 years. In addition, the two will have to face 16 months of probation.
The couple’s accountant was also sentenced to 36 months.
Many fans are in support of an appeal for a reduced sentence, sharing their concerns about Todd’s mother, Nanny Faye, who is struggling with cancer.
“I’m saddened by the sentencing of @toddchrisley and Julie Chrisley. 12 years is a long time and im sad because I don’t know if Nanny Faye has 12 years left and if Todd’s mom passes away while he’s in prison it will ruin him,” one fan wrote according to All About The Tea.
Another went on to say, “I feel so bad for the kids and Nanny Faye. I also worry how Todd will handle prison. It’s a really ridiculous sentence considering what some violent criminals get.”
Many are also questioning if their youngest son Grayson will be ok, as he was just involved in a scary car accident.
