
‘Bhakta Prahlada’, the first Telugu talkie, was released on this day in 1932.
The present generation is not aware of when Tollywood was born. This is the historical day. Many have contributed services marking this day. The world’s first film mookie was made in 1903 and the first Indian mookie film ‘Raja Harishchandra’ was released in the year 1913, which was produced by Dada Saheb Phalke on whose name the awards are given away every year.
In 1927, the Warner Brothers made first talkie film. Raghupathy Venkayya is the father of Telugu cinema. Raghupathy Venkayya served restlessly for the development of Tollywood and he trained his son Prakash at overseas and made few movies. After few mookie films, Pothina Srinivas Rao launched the first theater Maruthi Theater in Vijayawada.
The Hindu mythological film ‘Bhakta Prahlada’ was directed by H. M. Reddy and produced by Ardeshir Irani of Imperial Film Company. The movie features Sindhoori Krishna Rao as the titular Prahlada, along with Munipalle Subbiah, Doraswamy Naidu, Surabhi Kamalabai, Chitrapu Narasimha Rao, and L. V. Prasad.
H M Reddy directed the first talkie film ‘Bhakta Prahallada’ in Telugu and it was released on 6th February 1932. However there was a controversy on its release date. This film was released with a single print and the same rotated through out Andhra Pradesh.
