ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Shama Amin quits The Apprentice
The upcoming episode of The Apprentice will show Shama Amin quitting the show due to the pain she faces with her rheumatoid arthritis.
In the third episode, the businesswoman tells Lord Alan Sugar that she has “made the difficult decision to leave the process” as the show’s physical demands have become too much when combined with her condition.
Nursery owner Shama says on the episode:
“Mentally, I was strong enough to carry on. But my body wasn’t allowing me to carry on.
“So I had no choice but to make a difficult decision like that.”
Speaking to Lord Sugar, Shama says: “I would just like to say something, Lord Sugar if that’s OK.
“I suffer from a condition called rheumatoid arthritis…
“Because of medical reasons, due to this process being so physically demanding, despite the efforts the whole team has made to support me, I’ve had to make a difficult decision to leave the process.”
Lord Sugar responds: “Well Shama, I’m really sad to hear that. I wish you and your family all the best for the future.”
Rheumatoid arthritis happens when the immune system turns on the body and attacks cells that line the joints.
The condition usually affects people in their teens or 20s. It can also be linked to genetics and is more common in women than men.
Prior to the show airing, Shama explained that she juggles her children’s day nursery with her own five children at home.
She had said: “Being a lady of colour, wearing a headscarf as well and the challenges that we face on a daily basis, I just want to be a living example for the Asian women out there.”
Shama Amin described herself as loyal, determined and outspoken.
She also said that she is ready to prove she has the “skillset that is required to be one of the best, successful businesswomen in the early years’ sector”.
Shama’s sudden exit will see her leave the £17million, eight-bedroom mansion where the candidates have use of nine bathrooms, a swimming pool, gym, and cinema.
Candidates competing for Lord Sugar’s £250,000 investment this year have the luxury of staying at Huxley House on London’s Bishops Avenue – also known as Billionaires’ Row.
The third episode, which airs on January 20, 2022, will see candidates tasked with creating non-alcoholic drinks.
