ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Sarika accuses Husband of Torture & Demanding Dowry
Bangladeshi actress Sarika has said she has filed a case against her husband, Badruddin Ahmed Razi, for allegedly torturing her and demanding dowry.
She claimed that her husband physically assaulted her for dowry.
A Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against Razi.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farah Diba Chonda passed the order, after recording Sarika’s statements.
Sarika’s legal representative Masudur Rahman Masud said the court also set a deadline of December 21, 2022, for submitting a report on executing the order.
According to the case documents, Sarika and Razi tied the knot on February 2, 2022.
Sarika’s parents presented a full set of furniture along with gold ornaments worth TK 25 Lakh (£19,600) to Razi and his family.
But after a few days, Razi allegedly began assaulting the actress, demanding TK 50 Lakh (£39,000) in dowry.
It was also alleged that he recently sent Sarika back to her parent’s home.
On November 19, members of the two families tried to sort things out through mutual negotiation.
But at the meeting, Razi demanded TK 50 lakh, claiming it was for “investing in businesses”.
He threatened to divorce Sarika and marry another woman unless his demands were made.
Sarika said: “I just cannot bear with this anymore, he was dependent on me for every single thing.
“I even paid our marriage expenses. How much more can a person bear? I will reveal more later.”
Pictures of Sarika wearing a traditional Tangail saree with an intricately embroidered blouse at her close-knit Akht ceremony caught the eyes of her fans.
Sarika also refrained from shooting a few days before her marriage and went back to work on February 12.
At the very beginning of her career, the actress married businessman Mahim Karim in 2014 but the couple divorced two years later. They have a daughter together.
After her divorce, Sarika took a lengthy break from acting.
She made her return to acting with the film Ami Tumi. The film also starred Farhan Ahmed Jovan.
Sarika said that she never felt as nervous in front of the camera as she did after returning.
She felt anxious about whether the audience would accept her acting after a three-year acting break.
