Nadia Jamil spoke about the challenges she faced in order to deal with her trauma and journey to healing.
This included dealing with harrowing pain, hiding from difficult situations and struggling with unhappiness.
Nadia explained her journey into rediscovering herself and allowing herself self-respect, protection and love.
Sharing a post thanking Emma-Jane Taylor for starting the #NotMyShame campaign, Nadia Jamil said:
“Until I found the tools to learn how to parent myself, until I found the way to respect myself, protect myself and love myself.
“I am responsible for taking care of the child within me and I am responsible for every other child whose healing I can somehow facilitate.
“Every child matters. Every single child is incredibly significant. Including the child within us, the adults.
“Healing is possible, the light at the end of the tunnel is real. It’s ok to feel the fear and move towards it.”
“At our own pace. It’s ok to feel sad and own our fears. It’s ok to feel overwhelmed. It’s ok to just stop and breathe. Because that’s the most important thing I do anyway.”
It’s taken a long time getting here, but Alhamdolillah I am truly blessed, & can say with my head high, I am a survivor, who learned how to become a blessed thriver. I walked through agonising pain, zero self esteem, constantly out sourcing my happiness, & hiding from situations… pic.twitter.com/aIipNe03qN

As a survivor of sexual abuse, Nadia Jamil placed emphasis on the importance of understanding the feelings of fellow victims as they embarked on their own journey to overcome their past.
She asked victims to accept their fear and slowly move towards overcoming it, deeming it important to pause and take a breath.
Nadia finished her statement by saying survivors should not be blamed for their ordeal and that it was the abusers who should be ashamed of their actions.
