The ‘Certificate of Commitment’ awarded by the World Book of Records, London in recognition of selfless service rendered during the Covid-19 pandemic is the perfect testimonial of her relentless passion to serve the people. This is just another feather in the glittering crown of Dr. Jeevana Latha, a strong-willed woman with a mission who needs no introduction in the medical circles of Tenali in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, a town that is known as the cradle of arts and culture.
Service to mankind is in her DNA itself as her father who is the pioneer of the communist movement has taught her the ethics, values, and responsibility of paying back to society. Inspired by her father, Jeevana Latha has chosen to become a doctor to take the service mantle of her father to newer pastures.
Born in an academically sound family with both her father and mother being teachers, Jeevana Latha has stood at the forefront of studies in her school K S M High School, Tenali where she came out with flying colours by passing the SSC examination with distinction and got second rank in the school. She equally excelled in co-curricular and extracurricular activities in the school by winning first prize in the district-level essay writing competition.
The seeds of her fascination for dance were sown during her school days. This has driven Jeevana Latha to perform the lead role in the Kuchipudi dance drama Puthadi Bomma Poornamma in a stage show in Russia and won the first prize for her outstanding performance. She has received many accolades for her grace and agility in dancing at that tender age. Her passion for dance got doubled after this memorable achievement. As a result, she doesn’t hesitate to shake a leg even now whenever there is an opportunity. She continues to receive resounding applause from the audience for her astounding dancing skills.
A proud alumnus of Guntur Medical College, with a diploma in public health and a diploma in diabetology from Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Dr. Jeevana Latha started her career as a resident doctor at Lalitha Super Speciality Hospital, Guntur and later joined as a duty doctor in Mysore and worked in Thiruvella, Kerala for three years. In 2000 the unquenched thirst to serve the people back home brought her to the Government Service in her home district in Andhra Pradesh.
The service she has done as Medical Officer has been duly recognized by the District Administration and the State as well. As a result, she won the best medical officer award twice in the district and once at the State level. This speaks a lot about her dedication to duty, her hard work to attain perfection in what she does, and her unflinching commitment to serving the people that made her stand apart.
But that was the beginning only and the desire to serve more people has inspired Jeevana Latha to start the Rainbow Trust along with like-minded people thus embarking on the remarkable journey to help and serve women kind. Like the colours of the Rainbow, this trust functions on the seven ideals of service, compassion, empathy, encouragement, empowerment, support, and assistance to the poor destitute women who are in dire need of help.
A decade of devoted service by Rainbow demonstrates the resoluteness of Jeevana Latha who has extended her helping hand to women through the Rainbow Trust. She is successful in bringing smiles to many faces, ushering in laughter in many households, and filling many hearts with happiness with her compassionate and selfless service.
The contribution of Rainbow Trust to society is equally commendable and highly motivating. The trust has given a new ray of hope and provided a fresh lease of life to many women making them strong and self-sufficient. Free medical camps for women, feeding the poor, distribution of PPE kits at the time of Corona epidemic, spearheading the fundraising campaign for the surgery of little heart Amrutha Varshini, or encouraging the talent and skill of women by felicitating the women athletes like Shaik Shabeena who won the powerlifting competition, the Rainbow Trust under the aegis of Jeevana Latha has not only turned out to be the motivator but also the saviour of women in distress.
Women empowerment is always a top priority for Jeevana Latha who firmly believes in economic independence for women as the prerequisite for women empowerment. She reiterates the need for women to be self-sufficient so that they can help others in the family and society without depending on others. Jeevana Latha and her Rainbow Trust by collaborating with other philanthropic organizations are devising many programmes to enlighten women on various social issues to make them independent and strong enough to confront the challenges in life and emerge as winners in every sphere.
On this International Women’s Day, Jeevana Latha whose role model is Mother Theresa and who follows her principles of doing even small things with love rededicates herself again to the upliftment of women. This year also, the Rainbow trust has successfully conducted various competitions to unearth the hidden talent in women by joining hands with organizations like Rotary Club Adarsh. This is another step forward by her to spread the message loud and clear – to unleash the power of women and make them fearless, and courageous, and to turn them into true allrounders.
Overall, Jeevana Latha has set an example by being a successful, strong, and independent woman by possessing all the qualities required by an empowered woman who got service as one of her top priorities. Like a candle that never loses any of its light by lighting another, she continues to be the inspiration and lifeline behind the evolution of a transformed woman who is making rapid strides toward new horizons.
