ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Deepika Padukone Reveals She Did ‘Jawan’ Cameo For Free
Deepika Padukone shared that she did not charge any money for her special appearance in Jawan (2023).
The film stars Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara in lead roles. Along with Deepika, Sanjay Dutt also has a cameo appearance.
The Padmaavat actress has a long-standing association with SRK.
She made her Hindi film debut opposite him in Om Shanti Om (2007).
They have also starred together in Chennai Express (2013), Happy New Year (2014) and Pathaan (2023).
Deepika spoke about the sense of luck she and SRK share with each other:
“We are each other’s lucky charm. Honestly, we are beyond lucky. We have a sense of ownership over each other.”
She added that SRK presents vulnerability to her:
“I am one of the few people he is vulnerable with. There is so much trust and respect, and I think that luck is just the cherry on the top.”
Deepika also divulged into her warm relationship with Rohit Shetty.
She admitted that she did not charge fees for her work in 83 (2021) which features her husband Ranveer Singh.
Deepika said:
“I wanted to be a part of 83 because I wanted it to be an ode to women who stand behind their husbands’ glory.
“I watched my mother do it. This was my homage to wives who make sacrifices to support their husbands’ careers.
“Other than that, any special appearance for Shah Rukh Khan, I am there.”
“Same with Rohit Shetty.”
Deepika and SRK’s Pathaan emerged as the highest-grossing film of the year with a worldwide revenue of over Rs 1,000 Crore (£96 million).
The actress confessed that she was not interested in box office figures. She felt glad that audiences were returning to cinemas after COVID-19:
“I’ve never been fascinated by numbers whether it was maths in school or the numbers of Pathaan.
“I was just happy that cinemas had come alive again, that people had come alive again. I was really grateful for that.”
Jawan released on September 7, 2023. The film had a tremendous start at the box office.
It has earned over Rs. 695 Crore (£67 million) and is currently the second highest-grossing film of 2023.
In Jawan, Deepika played Aishwarya Rathore, wife of Vikram Rathore and mother of Azaad Rathore (both played by SRK).
On the work front, Deepika Padukone will next be seen in Siddharth Anand’s Fighter.
The film marks her first collaboration with Hrithik Roshan and also stars Anil Kapoor.
