An Federal US judge has sentenced Joe Exotic to 21 years in prison. He was one year less than his initial 22-year sentence. Joe Exotic – whose real name is Joseph Maldonado Passage was found guilty of murder in a case involving activist for animal welfare Carole Baskin. Both of them were featured in the famous Netflix TV series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem And Madness.
Exotic was resentenced following an appeals court of the federal government found last year that the wrong guidelines for sentencing were applied. Prosecutors allege that he tried to recruit two people who were unidentified FBI agents – murder Baskin who had criticized the way he treated animals. Maldonado-Passage’s lawyers claimed he wasn’t doing anything wrong.

Baskin was present at the sentencing at Oklahoma City. In the last month, lawyers stated that Maldonado-Passage delayed the treatment for prostate cancer until after his sentence was resentencing. Federal prison officials informed news agencies that Exotic was transferred out of FMC Fort Worth in Texas to FMC Butner in North Carolina. The announcement was believed to have been made on November 16, with Butner offering ‘extensive medical care and treatments for cancer.
From Fort Worth federal prison earlier this month, Joe said: “It is with a sad face that I have to tell you… that my prostate biopsy’s came back with an aggressive cancer.” Second season Tiger King was released last year, and it delves deeper into the life of Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin and Jeff Lowe. It also included a bit in the final scene in which Exotic finally showed some sort of sympathy for the actions he’s taken. Just before you believe that he’s confessing regret for Baskin Think again. These long prison sentences have provided Exotic some insight into how he dealt with the animals in his zoo throughout the many years. He claimed to have finally understood why it’s not right to keep these large cats in cages, since the cat now knows how that is like. “After being lumped up her three years, I know now how my animals felt,” Joe declared in the last episode. “I’m ashamed of myself. I hope I’ll get a second chance just like my tigers.”
