The two fall in love but Simran’s father Chaudhary Baldev Singh (Amrish Puri) has already arranged her marriage to Kuljeet Singh (Parmeet Sethi).

Instead of taking the cliche route of having the lovers elope, Aditya has Raj try and persuade Simran’s father to let him marry her.

At the time, this was a refreshing twist for romances in Bollywood.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is the film that carved SRK’s hugely popular romantic persona onscreen.
