Even though we have made many statutes and laws to ensure equality in all spheres, socio-economic factors continue to play a key role in deciding the fate of many marriages in our country. https://snooper-scope.in/ardha-shathabdham-review-a-cracking-potshot-at-casteism-against-delectable-backdrop-of-love/ 14 Phere is one such story of a young couple from different castes who devise a way out to get married is streaming now on Zee5 digital platform.

Story

Sanjay Lal Singh (Vikrant Massey), a Rajput from Bihar, and Aditi Karwasra (Kriti Kharbanda), a Jat from Rajasthan were in love but the conservative families on both sides do not encourage inter-caste marriages. Hence, Sanjay and Aditi devise a plan to hoodwink both the families by engaging theatre artistes to play the roles of their father and mother.

How  both Sanjay and Aditi manage their ‘baraatis’ and ‘shaadis’ is the remaining story of 14 Phere.

Performances

Vikrant Massey takes the cake when it comes to performance followed by the ravishing Gauahar Khan as Zubina, the self-proclaimed Meryl Streep of Delhi who makes her presence felt in an age-defying character which was always a challenge to portray under any circumstances.

Kriti Kharbanda was off-colour except in the climax scene and there was nothing much to talk about her performance.

On other hand, Jameel Khan as the veteran actor Amay who acts as the father of both Sanjay and Aditi gives out a splendid performance.

Yamini Das as Sarla Lal Singh, Vineet Kumar as Kanhaiya Lal Singh, and Sumit Suri as Vivek Karwasra have given their best in steering the narrative.

Behind the scenes

The writing of Manoj Kalwani and the direction of Devanshu Singh were fresh enough without giving 14 Phere a preachy or melodramatic look for which they deserve the accolades.

Moreover, the soundtrack of the film was another asset that presented the true ethos of the theme. The songs and background score by Rajeev V Bhalla were impressive.

Final Verdict

Though the storyline was predictable, the way comedy was intertwined  with the plot of casteism by upheaving the traditions and culture made 14 Phere a treat to watch. It’s a thorough entertainer that bashes the caste discrimination though in a lighter mode.
